I'm tired of this trend.
What was I doing differently?
"Ok, great," I thought. "I'll get around to it eventually."
I didn't.
Muchhhhhh later, this same friend (who has an AMAZING blog that you should check out here) led a Love Dare Jesus Style Challenge where we spent time drawing near to God using the Love Dare for couples. She suggested we approach God in the same way we would a good friend, or even spouse. You know, leaving a spot for Him next to you, making an extra plate of food for Him, or coffee. This was weird to me at first (sorry, Rach), because I thought "Jesus doesn't need food." or "What will I do with it when I'm done?"
I also felt weird about approaching God in that way. Actually, approaching God in general makes me nervous for some reason. So I thought, what do I have to lose? I'm not where I need to be, so I need to change something about what I'm doing.
So one morning, I had coffee with Jesus.
And you know what? It was amazing. I felt comfortable approaching Him. I felt like I could just bring my thoughts, feelings, fears, and LIFE to Him. I learned a few things:
1. You don't need to enter His presence with order and perfection.
2. He really just wants me to talk to Him.
3. He wants to commune with me.
4. He can handle my messes, too.
Jesus awesome. He's the Mighty King. We should reverence Him and be humbled by Him. But, He is also the lover of our soul. Isn't that beautiful? He really just wants to get to know us individually. I mean, He ALREADY knows us. He knows the hairs on our heads, the thoughts and intents of our hearts, and our future. But He wants an intimate relationship. I think I got so caught up in my fear ofGod, that I forgot to just come to Him and Be Real.
Moral of the story, you should definitely read this book. Give a coffee date with Jesus a try. I know it may sound crazy to you. It did to me. You may just find, however, that it brings a new perspective to your walk with God. You may just find that He was waiting for you to make a move.
Will you have coffee with Jesus?
Also- watch for a Saturday Morning Worship coming to a blog near you! ;)
