I think we all have a skewed view of ourselves.
There it is. Think about it. Most people fall into one of two categories:
1. They think way higher of others and too lowly of themselves
2. They think too highly of themselves
But I'm going to focus more on number 1 today. Only with a "God-view" can we see ourselves AND others with a proportionate eye. I have felt convicted of this, because I have struggled with seeing myself and others with a proper God-view. I think the way we view and carry ourselves is a way of worshipping God and reaching others.
Why?
"She says she's found a love that satisfies, but I never see her giving herself a chance. She never seems confident in herself! Doesn't look like she's satisfied!"
This can also go the other way.
I have been so convicted of my self-worth lately. Some of the things I regularly tell myself sound like this:
"I'm not smart or witty enough"
"I'm not as pretty as her."
"I'm too awkward."
"I'm not as fit as I should be."
"I'm not organized enough."
"My voice doesn't always float like I want it to above the staff."
"I sound like a psycho."
I really could go on. How many of these things from this list begin with I or My?
Hmmm. ALL OF THEM. How many of them began with God, Jesus, He, or "He made me" Plot twist! NONE OF THEM. Therefore, I'm actually being more selfish! Would ya look at that.
What if the problem only lies where our view is? What if we shifted our view from ourselves to Jesus? You can't tell me that I can keep these thoughts about myself as I get closer to Jesus.
As we get closer to Him, we get farther from our skewed view of ourselves.
So this week I challenge you to spend more time thinking about Jesus and his characteristics than yourself. That's what I will be doing.
Let's shift our focus from US to HIM.
How?
Take this step with me! Comment and tell me one habit you want to change that can be step one in changing your view of self to a more proportionate "God-view!" 21 days-Let's go!
